ALBERT JUSZCZAK (1947 – 2017)
Kosciuszko Foundation President – 1980-1986
We are saddened to announce the death of a former Kosciuszko Foundation President – Dr. Albert Juszczak who passed away on October 4, 2017 at the age of 70. Dr. Juszczak served as KF President from 1980 to 1986 just in time to witness the Solidarity era, the most tumultuous years in Poland since World War II. As a teacher of Polish language and literature, he focused on academics and scholarships, with an interest in solidifying the status of Polish intellectual life at the Kosciuszko Foundation.
Dr. Juszczak received the first doctorate in the history of Polish literature ever awarded at the University of Chicago. He taught Polish language and literature at NYU and Hunter College, was a professional English-Polish, Polish-English translator, and an active member of numerous Polish-American organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Janina Juszczak and children: Theresa and Mark.
A Memorial Mass for Dr. Albert Juszczak will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14 at St. Adalbert Roman Catholic Church: 52-29 83rd Street, Elmhurst, New York, 11373
