JERRY & THE PELICAN SYSTEM
Jerzy Mączyński (born March 17, 1995) - Polish saxophone player and composer. From an early age, he was educated in various music schools in the fields of jazz and classical music. A graduate of the Academy of Music in Wrocław, he spent the last year of undergraduate studies on a scholarship in Denmark, where he perfected his music skills at Syddanskmusikkonservatorium. In 2018, as a second Pole in history, he began his Masters Studies at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in the field of contemporary music performance. The founder and the leader of the band "Jerry & The Pelican System" - an alternative musical concept that is taking by storm not only the Polish, but also the international scene of instrumental music. Co-founder of one of the most recognizable experimental jazz bands of the younger generation, P.E. Quartet. In 2018, in cooperation with Wytwórnia MultiKulti Project, the band released their first album called "Cokolwiek" (Anything). The album in its entirety represents the style of Indie Jazz. In 2016, the band won the International Festival - Tarnów Jazz Contest and won the 3rd place at the Blue Note Jazz Competition. So far, this talented musician has performed on many Polish and international stages, including: music festivals Jazz Jamboree, Ferrara Buskers Festival, or Jazztopad, and the European Parliament in Brussels as part of EXPO2017.
Jerry & The Pelican System is his original project. It is attended by musicians from different backgrounds, playing on a daily basis in different formations. The main assumption of the band is to create their own music based on the leader's multi-colored compositions. The selection of musicians allows to break patterns, create new forms and innovative solutions. The enigmatic name allows the recipient to feel the climate of absurdity, which is an inherent element of the project.
Kuba Cichocki is a Polish jazz pianist, improviser and composer based in New York City. Over the years he has performed in a variety of contexts in the U.S., Europe and Asia, including festivals such as International Solo Piano Festival (Prague, Czech Republic), The Mafrika Music Festival (NYC), The International Chopin & Friends Festival (NYC), Jarasum International Jazz Festival (Jarasum, South Korea), to name a few. Before coming to New York City in 2010, he performed and recorded with some of the biggest names in Polish and European jazz, such as Zbigniew Namyslowski, Michael Urbaniak, Aga Zaryan, Urszula Dudziak, Jaromir Honzak. Currently his interests oscillate between the experimental/improvised NY scene and a groove-oriented jazz with Latin elements. Cichocki collaborates, among others, with 5-time Grammy award winner, John Benitez, composer George Brandon, Flin van Hemmen, Patrick Breiner, Pat O'Leary, and has performed with his own groups at NYC music venues such as Nublu, Spectrum, Bowery Electric, Rockwood Music Hall, Shapeshifter Lab, IBeam. He is the leader of Audubon Lab Experiment, a jazz/world/experimental group that recorded their debut album in 2016.
