The recipient of our 2018 Kosciuszko Foundation Pioneer Award is
Ms. Loretta Swit
a well-known American actress of Polish descent, equally versatile at comedy and drama, best known for her portrayal of Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan on M*A*S*H* (1972), for which she won two Emmy Awards.
Loretta Swit was nominated for 4 Golden Globes, is a winner of 1980 and 1982 Primetime Emmy Award, 1983 People's Choice Award, 1991 Sarah Siddons Award, and 2009 Impact Award.
She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1989.
Ms. Swit appeared in over 50 films, in numerous Broadway productions, musicals, and TV series.
Privately, she is a dedicated animal activist, and has served as a spokesperson for the Humane Society of the United States.
She is an author of two books: A needlepoint Scrapbook and SwitHeart: The Watercolour Artistry & Animal Activism of Loretta Swit.
She runs her own jewelry line and exhibits watercolor paintings.
