A Piano Concert by James Bennett

Join us Saturday June 18th, 2016 at 3:00pm for a concert by a talented young pianist, James Bennett.

James Bennett has been playing piano for about 6 years and is currently a student of Dr. Marjorie Lee.  He attends Luther Jackson Middle School, where he plays first violin in the school orchestra. Besides playing music, James likes to compose and improvise. He plays piano not only at competitions, but also at coffeehouses, nursing homes, and at the Polish Embassy. He performed a concert at the Kosciuszko Foundation, followed by another at the Polish-American Arts Association.

James won the M. Gotlieb Competition in 2013. He also got first place in the Young Musicians Inspiring Change competition, the MSMTA Solo, and the WMTA Hartman Competition in 2015. He won third place in the American-Asian International Competition and WMTA Russian Competition, as well as second place in the Robert Spencer Concerto Competition. James got to the finals in the Novik Concerto Competition, received honorable mention in 2016 and earned a "Superior" in the Bach Baroque Festival. James was chosen to perform at the Center for the Performing Arts at George Mason University. His compositions won first place in 2012 and 2014 in the Annual PTA "Reflections" Contest. Lately James won first place in a duet competition and first place in the MSMTA Solo festival.

Born in Warsaw, James has lived in Poland, Russia and Ukraine. He speaks Polish as well as English, and his Polish heritage comes through in his interpretations of the music of Chopin. His passion for music is matched by his interest in math and his imaginative, creative writing. His dream is to have his own orchestra.
