The Kosciuszko Foundation in cooperation with the New York Conservatory of Music hosts "Master & Students" - a piano recital by Prof. Miroslaw Herbowski as part of NYCM20th anniversary celebrations. 

The concert will be opened by Jakub Polaczyk with a lecture titled "Chopin, Paderewski and the national syndrome in the modern Polish Music".

Professor Herbowski graduated with honors from the Academy of Music in Cracow in 1982. He studied in the class of prof. Irene Sijałowa-Vogel, the student of H. Neuhaus. He completed his studies in masterclasses provided by R. Buchbinder, I. Klansky, F. Rauch, P. Rosen and N. Salzmann.

He is a laureate and finalist of music competitions in Warsaw, Rotterdam and Rome. Since 1982 he has performed regularly in Poland, throughout Europe, Georgia, UAE, Japan and USA. He participated in music festivals in Poland: Warsaw, Poznan, Wroclaw, Katowice, Cracow and abroad: in Jakobstad, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Salzburg.

Professor Herbowski has performed in Mozarteum, Berlin Philharmonic, Moscow Conservatory, Columbia Artist International Hall and Steinway Hall in New York. He has made many television and radio recordings for Polish, Finnish and Swedish media.

He has recorded several CDs including works by J. Brahms, S. Franck, F. Schubert, P. Hindemith and I. Stravinsky. He was working at the Music Academy in Cracow from 1981 – 1989 during his doctoral studies as an assistant and assistant professor.

From 1989 to 1997 he was a lecturer and the head of the piano department at the Jakobstad Conservatory in Finland and later a lecturer at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where he led the piano class until 2000.

Since 2001 he is again a piano lecturer at the Academy of Music in Cracow, where he received the title of habilitated doctor in 2003. In 2014 he received the title of music professor.

Since 2004 he is also a piano professor at the Music Department of the University of Rzeszow.

Between 1990 till now he provided piano courses in Goteborg, Helsinki, Jakobstad, Copenhagen, New York, Vienna and in Poland. He was a jury member of many music competitions in Poland and abroad.

STUDENTS:

Jim Chou:

Jim Chou is originally from Taiwan. He has been playing for close to 20 years. He is now a student of Professor Jerzy Stryjniak at NYCM.

Katherine Brooke:

Katherine has enjoyed playing piano since the age of seven and has immensely benefitted from continuing her exploration of the instrument over the last three years with the support of Professor Jerzy Stryjniak and The New York Conservatory of Music. She feels lucky to have been one of the first to join the conservatory's partnership with her school, Marymount Manhattan College. She thanks her family for love and encouragement, near or far. 

 Joel Espinoza:

 Born in San Salvador, El Salvador. Joel studied piano with maestro Giovanni Ardon at Centro Nacional de Artes (National Center of the Arts) for 3 years. Joel has performed in many different venues for example; CENAR, Canal 10 TV, Auditorium of Museo David J. Guzman, Centro Cultural Salvadoreño Americano (El Salvadorian American Cultural Center), Gran Sala del Teatro Nacional in San Salvador, El Salvador and Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica (National University of Costa Rica). Joel has also performed at the American School in El Salvador, American Embassy of San Salvador, Hunter College. His most recent performances have been at The New Steinway Hall in New York City and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York, USA. At the present time he studies under famous concert pianist, Professor Jerzy Stryjniak, who is the founder of The New York Conservatory of Music.

Ryan DeFranzo:

Ryan DeFranzo is thrilled to be with the New York Conservatory of Music for his third year. He has performed with the school at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, and the Liederkranz Foundation. In addition to playing the piano, Ryan is a composer and theatrical performer currently in his junior year at Marymount Manhattan College. Ryan would like to thank his friends, family, colleagues, and of course the professors for their support, inspiration, and guidance.

The New York Conservatory of Music is a music school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City. It was founded in 1998 by renowned concert pianist Dr. Jerzy Stryjniak and his wife, musicologist Joanna Stryjniak.

The Conservatory's mission is to educate students in music and culture; help them develop their tastes in classical, jazz, Broadway music and more; and provide them with the proper environment for professional growth.
