Camerata New York, one of New York's most distinguished chamber ensembles, returns to the Kosciuszko Foundation. 

Richard Owen leads this orchestra of young up-and-comers in the Overture to La buona figliuola by Niccolò Piccinni,  Pavane by Fauré, Three Pieces in Baroque Style by Penderecki, Symphony No. 5 by Schubert and Górecki's Concerto for Piano and Strings with soloist Katarzyna Musial.

Founded in Vienna and reconstituted in New York, Camerata New York has completed eight highly successful seasons in the city, with concerts in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Merkin Hall; they have collaborated with many noted artists, including soprano Aprile Milo, cellist Nathaniel Rosen, and film star Alec Baldwin. Their recordings have also been heard on WQXR.

Henryk Gorecki was a Polish composer most heavily influenced by Messiaen, though crafting a unique, dramatic and very individual compositional voice of his own over the years. Very contemporary in his approach to composition and orchestration, Gorecki also venerated early music, sometimes incorporating early musical concepts.

Gorecki's concerto for harpsichord/piano and orchestra came about as a commission from Polish Radio. This unusual, highly rhythmic work, which draws on music from Poland's mountain regions, is comprised of two up tempo movements with large dynamic changes. It is short, light, effective instrumentally, easily approachable and gives great satisfaction to the performers. As part of Gorecki's later works this piece comes as a surprise especially after such serious pieces as his 2nd and 3rd Symphonies. The composer himself describes the work as being a musical prank.
