The University of Washington Polish Studies Endowment Committee presents
Household and gender roles in 19th century Central Europe Lecture by
Dr. Tomasz Pudlocki
Thursday, November 29, 2012 At 7:30PM
At The Simpson Center on the UW Campus
Dr. Pudlocki will present selected aspects of household and gender roles in 19th century Central European communities, examining diverse social classes and their everyday life conditions, marriage as well as single life. Why was it so hard to be a woman in a 19th century city, town and village? Why were men entrapped in conflicting behavioral patterns? Why did dowry still play such an enormously important role and why did the sewing machine not save lower class women? These are only a few of the problems Dr. Pudlocki will consider in his talk.
Dr. Tomasz Pudlocki is a historian from Jagiellonian University (Krakow, Poland) and this year's Kosciuszko Foundation Grantee at Columbia Uni- versity.
