Western New York - About Us

The Western New York Chapter of the Kosciuszko Foundation was founded May 2, 1988.

During its quarter of a century of activity, the Western New York Chapter has been an active propagator of cultural activities.  Of particular note, is the lead role it provided in the presentation of two stellar Polish operas – Szymanowski's "King Roger" and Moniuszko's "Straszny Dwor" (Haunted Manor) at Shea's Buffalo.  Major support for the operas was provided by The Kosciuszko Foundation.  In 2004, the Chapter donated the initial seed money for the production of "Polonia" by Channel 17 on Public Broadcasting Service, which was enthusiastically received in Western New York.

The Kosciuszko Foundation has underwritten the engagement of professors of Polish Studies for many years at leading universities including most currently at the State University of New York at Buffalo.  Numerous talented Western New Yorkers have been granted scholarships by the Kosciuszko Foundation in its 80-year history.  The Kosciuszko Foundation maintains a summer study program in Poland, which has introduced many Americans to Polish history and culture.  Many attendees are now leaders in our Buffalo community.  The local Chapter is, and has been, a major recruiter for the teaching of English at summer camps in Poland.
