Kossak Wojciech

WOJCIECH KOSSAK

Wojciech Kossak's art, shaped first by the influences of his father Juliusz and Józef Brandt, eventually became entirely his own. He was renowned particularly for the bravura of his compositions. He exhibited in  Krakow, Lwów, Warsaw, Paris, Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Saint Petersburg, Moscow and Rome. He was honored with the Cross of Franz Jóef I, the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, and in 1901 the French Legion of Honor. He was also a laureate of the Art Award of the City of Warsaw.

Working mostly in oils and watercolor, Kossak favored military subjects from the Napoleonic of 1830-1831. He was also a fashionable and much-in-demand portraitist whose sitters included such military figures as Marshal Ferdinand Foch and the American generals John Pershing.
