January 26, 2018 - A lecture by  J.C. Warner University Professor of Natural Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University Krzysztof Matyjaszewski

  

Professor Krzysztof Matyjaszewski, one of the world's foremost researchers in the field of polymer chemistry, best known for the discovery of atom radical transfer polymerization (ATRP), was a guest lecturer at the Kosciuszko Foundation's Collegium of Eminent Scientists Event Series held on January 26, 2019 at the Foundation's House in New York City.

Professor Matyjaszewski, J.C. Warner University Professor of Natural Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University presented a lecture titled: "Macromolecular Engineering by Taming Free Radicals" which elaborated on the advantages of the application of ATRP. He explained how this method of polymer synthesis allows scientists to create a wide range of materials with highly specific, tailored functionalities used for the production of advanced materials, such as health and beauty products, biomedical and electronic materials, dispersants, lubricants, additives, or sealants. October 28, 2017 - "The Essence of Life" - A Meeting with Professor Waclaw Szybalski

The second event in the KF Collegium of Eminent Scientists Event Series that took place on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 honored its distinguished member, Prof. Waclaw Szybalski, world-renowned molecular biologist, multiple candidate for the Nobel Prize, Professor Emeritus of Oncology at the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The central element of the event was a screening of "The Essence of Life" documentary film about Prof. Szybalski by an award-winning director, writer and producer, former KF grant recipient Anna Ferens. Among the guest speakers were Prof. William C. Summers of Yale University who gave a talk about Prof. Szybalski. Remarks by Professor James Watson, Nobel Prize winner in Physiology or Medicine (1962), who due to health reasons had to cancel his appearance at the event, were read by Dr. Norman Kelker. The event was concluded by Chopin recital by Malgorzata Goroszewska.

September 20, 2017 - President of Poland Andrzej Duda Meets Members of the KF Collegium of Eminent Scientists at the Kosciuszko Foundation. 

   

The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, visited the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York City on Sept. 20, 2017. He was invited by the Foundation to meet with members of the scientific community who are of Polish origin and are members of the Kosciuszko Foundation Collegium of Eminent Scientists.


At the meeting were delegates from the Polish governments, scientists and members of the Collegium, including Polish Ambassador to the United States, Piotr Wilczek; Chief of the Cabinet of the President's Chancellery, Krzysztof Szczerski; Chief of the National Security Bureau, Paweł Soloch; Consul General of the Republic of Poland in New York, Maciej Golubiewski; Associate Medical Director at Biogen (Research and Early Clinical Development), Mirosław Bryś, M.D., Ph.D.; President and Research Director of PharmaSeq, Inc., Włodzimierz Mandecki, Ph.D.; Professor of Mathematics at Northeastern Illinois University, Lidia Filus; and a member of the machine learning team at Google Research New York, Krzysztof Choromanski, Ph.D.

November 19, 2016 - Protochemistries are a Bridge – the first lecture in the Collegium of Eminent Scientists Series by Prof. Roald Hoffmann, Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry (1981)

       

On November 19, 2016 Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry (1981), Professor Roald Hoffman delivered the first lecture in the Kosciuszko Foundation Collegium of Eminent Scientists Series. His talk, titled Protochemistries are a Bridge reflected on stories of protochemistry that "form a natural bridge between chemists and nonchemists, between chemistry and culture (…) and plant science firmly in the context of world culture – chemistry in culture, culture in chemistry." The event featured poetry reading written by Prof. Hoffmann, Chopin piano recital by Dr. Magdalena Baczewska, and "On the Road – American Landscape" - the photo exibit by Dr. Hanna Chroboczek Kelker.
