Poland/Ukraine 2014

Will Russia invade Ukraine?  Can Ukrainians compromise and unite behind a new president and government?  Will Ukraine split and lose territory to the Russian Federation?  What are the United States and the European Union doing to avert more bloodshed?  How has Poland been working to avert further tragedy in Ukraine?

These and other matters will be discussed by our speakers, Adrian Karatnycky  of the Atlantic Council and John S. Micgiel, newly-elected President of the KF.

The evening will conclude with a small reception.

About our presenters:

Adrian Karatnycky is a senior fellow with the Atlantic Council's Program on Transatlantic Relations and managing partner of Myrmidon Group LLC, a New York-based consultancy that works with investors and corporations seeking entry into the complex emerging markets of Ukraine and Eastern Europe. He is a founder and co-director of the Ukrainian-Jewish Encounter.

He is a frequent contributor to Foreign Affairs, Newsweek, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune, and many other periodicals. He is coauthor of three books and coeditor of eight books on Soviet and post-Soviet themes. He's been an outstanding voice for the Council on events unfolding in Ukraine.

Dr. John S. Micgiel is the seventh President of the Kosciuszko Foundation.  Professor Micgiel taught for twenty-five years at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, where for many years he directed the Institute on East Central Europe, the East European, Russian, and Eurasian National Resource Center, and several other Institutes and Centers.  He is on the faculty of Warsaw University's Eastern Studies Center and the Estonian School of Diplomacy in Tallinn. 

Micgiel has been recognized by the Governments of Poland and Romania for his work on behalf of educational exchange and cooperation, and has been the recipient of numerous fellowships and scholarships awarded by various institutions including the Kosciuszko Foundation.   Assistant to late President Eugene Kusielewicz, long-time member of PIASA, with 23 years' service on the Board of the Pilsudski Institute, member of various scholarship committees including those of the Polish Student Organization and the Polish Slavic Federal Credit Union.
