In the Name of their Mothers
The Story of Irena Sendler
A documentary by Mary Skinner

A 60-minute documentary film about Irena Sendler Produced by 2B Productions in association with Wilton Films and TV Poland Directed by Mary Skinner and Wanda Koscia. In Polish with English subtitles.

In the Name of Their Mothers tells the remarkable story of Irena Sendler, a Polish Catholic social worker who organized the rescue of thousands of Jewish children from the Warsaw ghetto during World War II. Americans became familiar with Irena Sendler through the CBS Hallmark movie The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler starring Anna Paquin and Marcia Gay Harden. Broadcast in May of 2009, the TV drama was watched by almost 10 million people.

Now audiences will have a chance to see and hear from the real Irena Sendler in the last long interviews she gave before she died in May of 2008.

In the Name of Their Mothers features Sendler, interviews with some of her co-workers and several of the children they saved.

Though Irena Sendler was captured by the Gestapo, tortured, and condemned to death, she refused to reveal the whereabouts of the Jewish children she and her friends had smuggled out of the Warsaw ghetto. And she refused to reveal anything else about her collaborators in Żegota, a secret division of the Polish Underground that fought to help the Jews during the final years of the war. Today their stories – long kept quiet by the Communist regime in Poland – can finally be told.
