The Kosciuszko Foundation is pleased to present Maria Hagadus, Translator, Activist, Artist.  A woman of sublime style and refined artistic panache.

Maria Hagadus is offering IMAGES & WORDS—SIX DECADES, a representative selection of paintings that challenge the viewer with their inspiration, broad range and emotional impact.   No single period is sharply defined, and all are best described as transitional. Originality and her mastery of multiple media, however, are always clearly in evidence.

Maria was born in Lodz, Poland, before World War II, and came to the United States in 1945.  The "War Years", through which she lived as a young girl, and the long postwar era of Poland's political and artistic Isolation deeply affected her artistic sensitivities, and some of her most powerful paintings in this exhibit reflect their influence.

Maria studied formally at the Fleisher Art School in Philadelphia, and later was both student and teacher with New York artists B. Shirley Carter and Anthony Toney. She founded "Maria Hagadus Studio Gallery" in Bedford Hills, NY, where she introduced young Polish artists to the American art world, many of whom have gained international recognition.  She has exhibited in juried group and one man shows throughout the world, most recently in the PaulaBarr Gallery in Chelsea.

Among many talents she is a renowned translator of Polish poetry, prose and theater.

ONGOING EXHIBITION FROM APRIL 30th to MAY3rd----- 4 TO 7 PM
