A Kosciuszko Foundation Tribute to

   Dr Julian Kulski

the 2014 Recipient of the Pioneer Award

Julian Kulski was 10 years old when the Germans invaded Poland in 1939. By the time he turned 12, he had joined the Polish Underground Army, training to use weapons and learning the secret military's missions and tactics. During the war, he helped to build connections with the Jewish leadership within the Warsaw Ghetto and, later, escaped his sentence to Auschwitz. After the war, Dr. Kulski studied architecture at Yale University, and used this education to lead planning programs at Notre Dame, George Washington, and Howard Universities. He later worked for the World Bank, designing buildings worldwide. Dr. Kulski has received many distinguished awards from the Polish government for his military work during World War II.

Dr Kulski is an active member of the Board of Trustees of the Kosciuszko Foundation.

Dr Kulski's newest book: The Color of Courage: A Boy at War will be available at the reception.
